And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Lk. 2:10 -11
1. The birth was of a Saviour
Strange! When the angels appeared the shepherds were told that the birth of Jesus was for them! Some 2000 years later the message is still the same, the birth of Jesus is for all people, and that includes us now in the 21st. century, why?
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Mtt.1:21
Jesus’ name means, salvation. He was to come into the world to save sinners. That means all of us qualify, for all are sinners. Rom.3:23 Our sins have separated us from God. No one is exempt. So for each one of us Jesus was born into this world. But His birth alone was insufficient, it was necessary, but Bethlehem was only a means to an end, that end was Calvary: the place where Jesus would die for our sins. There on the cross Jesus was punished instead of us, that was the terrible price that had to be paid.
2. The birth was of Christ the Lord
There was no other that could do this! There was no other good enough to pay the price of sin. God Himself had to do it, or it would not have been possible for anyone to be saved. Jesus God’s only begotten Son was the price paid for our salvation.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isa.9:6
3.The birth was God’s gift to mankind
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Jn.3:16
Jesus was God’s gift to the whole world, not just to Mary or Joseph, not just for the shepherds or wise men, nor just to the Jews of the first century, but to all of humanity throughout the whole of human history. This salvation is free to all, and eternal life is offered to all those who truly repent and believe on Him. Consider:
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Eph.2:8-9But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Rom.10:8-11
How do you stand before God? Have you received God’s gift of salvation? if not you, and anything but whole hearted acceptance is taken as rejection, are under the judgement of God and are in danger of eternal damnation. Repent now and turn to Jesus.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Jn.3:18
