Colossians

Outline Section III

The Substantiality of Christ

Outline of section III

Christ is all in all

III. The Substantiality of Christ Ch.3:5-4:18

If the gospel message is to mean anything, then it has to be seen to work in everyday life

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obey, not in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.

Philippians. 2:12-13

In the first part of the epistle Paul lays out clearly  the salvation  that we have in Christ; it is complete and all sufficient. However this salvation has to be worked out in practice, in everyday life, otherwise it is of no value.

Paul, in the letter to the Philippians, exhorts us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. God wills and works in us, we have to work that out.

It is this that the third and final section of Colossians now deals with.

Working out your salvation in:

A. The personal life  Col.3:5-8

  1. Mortify Your Members (1)
  2. Mortify Your members (2)
  3. Put off

B. In fellowship  Col.3:9-17

C. In the domestic and work life Col.3:18-4:1

D. To those outside of Christ Col.4:2-6

E. In service Col.4:7-18
